FLORIDA EMANCIPATION DAY
ABOUT US
On May 20, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was announced in Tallahassee, Florida. The Tampa Bay History Center in partnership with Florida A&M University’s Brooksville Agricultural and Environmental Research Station, invites the community to the fourth annual Florida Emancipation Day: A Family Reunion & FAMU Farm Fest on Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Chinsegut Hill Historic Site in Brooksville.
We are commemorating the 160th anniversary of Florida Emancipation Day. This year’s gathering honors that defining moment with a full day of programming that explores history, agriculture, and wellness.
Visitors can experience guided tours of the historic site, hands-on demonstrations, and live performances. The event also features an agricultural showcase, a health expo, and a variety of food vendors offering regional cuisine. Families are encouraged to take part in activities designed for all ages.
Held on the grounds of one of Florida’s most storied landmarks, Florida Emancipation Day brings together scholars, community leaders, and local organizations in an engaging, educational setting. Admission is free, and all are welcome.
Organizers are seeking volunteers, sponsors, exhibitors, and vendors to support the event.
